When I modelled the Laocoon I was motivated by an article I read that there is a strong chance that it might be a forgery by Michalangelo. Which is not so far fetched since he was a known forger. So when I did it I used alot of his marbles as reference instead of looking at the sculpture itself. I also could not find any images of the back of the group. Though I have to say that when I was a student my school had a copy of the Laocoon in their premises, but at that time I was doing instalations and had not interest in clasical art, let alone its back view.
hi jannis, while the upfrond of the sculpture by Giambolgna is fully detailed , the back is quite smooth. is it intetional (position in the overhaul synthesis) or it was originally sculptured this way?
